My friend swears that his lover finds Spanish fly to have heated benefits. I don’t get this whole aphrodisiac trip. I thought it was all a bunch of lies. Is it worth trying? What’s the deal?- Swooning in Sue B.Dear Swooning,While the jury is still out on many aphrodisiacs, there are some confirmed benefits. Spanish fly produces a burn similar to the sex urge. Many other supposed aphrodisiacs, such as rhino’s horn, simply don’t work, and can be chalked up to popular culture. In any event, there is never any harm in a good meal with the hope of a serious “food-gasm.” Plus, if you sizzle, simmer and saut it, they will come – to dinner. As Valentine’s Day approaches, the perfect time to try some new recipes arrives. No good Valentine’s Day celebration would be complete without a little sensual nutritional activity. For the scientists out there, put the clipboards away for this sexperiment. If you’re in a mood to try some new tantalizing recipes, might I suggest beginning with dessert. Try a simple recipe. Perhaps grapes suit your fancy – think a feather bed and grapes fed slowly and teasingly to your anticipating lover. If grapes get you going, try a champagne grape ring as suggested in Martha Hopkins and Randall Lockridge’s book, “Intercourses.” Boil 3/4 cup of water and pour it over gelatin in a bowl. Wait five minutes, then add another 1/2 cup of water as well as 3/4 cup of champagne. Cool. Pour the mixture in a mold of your choice – be creative boys and girls – then allow the gelatin to set. Arrange seedless grapes, extra points for extra sensuality. This mixture is sure to set fire to your Valentine’s celebration. Remember, the key is not more alcohol or many grapes, but instead a sweet balance that teases your lover’s libido.Whatever you choose to create, some ingredients are indigenous to the island of lovemaking. Chocolate, strawberries, whipped cream, and a fine sauce are always welcome in any native adventure. As always, best wishes for the fantastic food-gasm. Keep it fun, focusing on the adventure of creating and devouring your proverbial love feast.Got a love and relationship question that’s literally, ummm… burning?
