Twenty groups were sponsored and 13 teams participated in Delta Gamma’s 14th annual Anchor Splash Sunday in the swimming pool at Goergen Athletic Center.

Two teams ? Delta Upsilon and a faculty team called the Swamp Rats ? tied for first place. Sigma Chi won third place. Each of these teams received a trophy and a pizza party afterwards.

The goal of the fundraising event was to cover the cost of a guide dog, approximately $3,000, for someone in Rochester.

The cost of participation was $30 for every 10 people who entered. An estimated $2,000-3,000 was raised for Guide Dogs of America, said senior, Delta Gamma member and Anchor Splash chairperson Brie Blumenreich. If the proceeds do not cover the cost of a dog, further fundraising will be done.

The event included a spirit competition, swimming races, synchronized swimming, a raffle, and a banner contest.

The event was open to the entire campus and the cost of admission was a $1 raffle ticket.

Blumenreich said her favorite part of the event was the spirit competition. “You get to see how excited everyone is,” she said.

“My favorite part of Anchor Splash was watching the faculty compete in the events,” sophomore Herb Sylvester said. “It was funny to see how into everything they were.”

Sophomore Kate Gurnett preferred synchronized swimming. “It was hilarious to see those guys perform routines,” she said.
