In three separate occurrences between Tuesday, Jan. 20 and Sunday, Jan. 25, six parking meter heads were knocked off their poles on Wilson Boulevard. The parking meters’ worth was estimated at over $1,000 each.
According to UR Security Investigator Daniel Lafferty, evidence left at the scene by the suspect(s) strongly suggested that the meter heads were destroyed by using either small gas or water manhole covers.
The suspects have not yet been identified. Lafferty encouraged anyone who saw individuals tampering with or loitering around the parking meters during the time of the incident to contact the security dispatcher.
Suspects silently steal from studying student
At approximately 1:10 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 24, two suspects walked into a room in Wilder Tower and stole $200 in cash from the student’s desk, according to Lafferty.
The student reports that neither of the suspects said a word as they walked into the room. At the time, the student was studying at his desk. The suspects then ran out of the room as soon as they stole the money.
The student believes that the suspects have no affiliation with the University.
Security officers reported to the scene shortly after to investigate the crime.
The officers encountered and questioned two students in the vicinity of the crime. The students said they saw two individuals who matched a description of the suspects.
However, the two suspects were not located.
There has been no police report filed at this time.
Panhandler banished from school grounds
On Saturday, Jan. 24, a person with no affiliation to the University was panhandling in the lobby of Valentine Tower.
Worried students called UR Security, which immediately arrived at the scene. Security then identified and questioned the man.
Officers issued him a ban form and warned him not to return. The man left the scene peacefully.
Students walk across the icy river, Security upset
In two separate incidents on Wednesday, Jan. 21 and Monday, Jan. 26, Security observed four individuals crossing the Genesee River.
Officers confronted three persons to discourage them from participating in the dangerous activity, warning them of the consequences of their actions.
UR Security discourages the practice of walking across the river, because although the river may appear frozen over, this may be an illusion and someone could get hurt.
Wilder resident files report about stolen Xbox
A student residing in Wilder Tower recently filed a report with security about his stolen Xbox unit.
According to the student, his video game system and several games were stolen from him sometime between Sunday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. and Monday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m.
The student first notified Rochester Police Department before calling Security about the theft in his dormitory.
