New students who are qualified veterans applying to the College in fall of 2009 will have a new scholarship available to them. They may be eligible for a full tuition scholarship after meeting normal admissions requirements. The financial debt that is not covered by outside sources, such as veteran benefits and other student funding, will be covered by UR’s new Pledge Scholarship. This new Pledge Scholarship is similar to a scholarship offered by Nazareth College. There is no limit to how many individuals can take advantage of this opportunity, according to Assistant Director of Public Relations Melissa Greco Lopez.

UR’s scholarship will allow any veteran, regardless of his or her personal financial situation, to further his or her education.

‘The revised GI Bill recognizes that individuals who have sacrificed their time and other opportunities in service deserve access to the best higher education the nation can afford,” Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Jonathan Burdick said.

Burdick went on to commend UR’s abilities as an educational institution.

‘The University of Rochester is one of the places where many can excel and train for continuing leadership,” he said.

It is unclear whether or not students who would not normally be eligible for financial aid will be candidates for this scholarship and if the program will be available at the graduate schools in the future.
