In an ideal world, colleges across the country would not be required to meet stringent Title IX requirements that have limited men’s sports over the past 20 years. UR would have a varsity lacrosse team that would dominate fellow UCAA opponents such as Union College, Ithaca College and St. Lawrence College and earn the respect and admiration of the student body. Instead, the players on UR’s lacrosse team are resigned to dominating on the club level and just enjoying playing the game that they love.

UR will face off against the likes of SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Binghamton, and Hobart College this year. The team features several star players. They are led on offense by senior Eli Whitney and junior Matt Tyrell, who also serves as the president of the UR lacrosse club. At defense, the team is led by fellow sophomores Matt Nemecheck and Pete Fabricant. In between the pipes, junior Adam Simmons makes the switch to the last line of defense after spending last season up front on the offensive end.

“Adam has been doing a tremendous job in practice so far and we expect him to continue that type of play once games start,” Tyrrell said. UR lacrosse opens its season this saturday against Behrend College at 8 p.m at Fauver Stadium.
