Naming sophomore forward Bridgette Varin of the women’s soccer team Athlete of the Week is an understatement.

Last week, the University Athletic Association named her the Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. She also tied UR’s record, which has not been touched for seven years, for number of goals scored in a single game on Saturday, Oct. 4, when she netted four at home against Brandeis University. She has helped lead the Yellowjackets to an overall record of 8-2-2 and a conference record of 1-1.

Varin, an economics major from Scottsville, N.Y., shined on the varsity soccer team at Wheatland Chili High School the 86 goals and 54 assists she compiled throughout her career led the team to two sectional championships.
Here at UR, she has mirrored that level of play.

This season alone, she has already scored nine goals and assisted in three others she’s banked 21 overall points, and there are still six games remaining in the season.
