Campaigning is set to begin next week for the Students’ Association presidential race. The election is open to any student wishing to hold the position.

“The SA President is the official representative of the student body,” current SA President Lonny Mallach said. “The president is involved in everything from [Students’ Association Appropriations Committee], to dining, to financial issues.”

A debate will be held between the candidates to allow the student body to learn what issues each candidate plans to address should they be elected.

“Whatever they want to accomplish as president, they can incorporate into their agenda,” Mallach said.

There is more advertising for the SA Presidential election than for Senate elections. In last year’s race, four candidates ran for the position. Mallach expects five to six candidates this year. He also expects a 40 percent voter turnout for the election. Voting for SA President begins Monday April 21. The new president will begin the one- year term on June 1. Any students wishing to run are encouraged to attend the final interest meeting which will be tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the Ruth Merrill Center. A mandatory meeting for all candidates will also be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Ruth Merrill Center.

Class council elections are also approaching for the Class of 2004, 2005 and 2006. Class councils are responsible for promoting class unity through events during the year.

Students wishing to run for class council must attend an interest meeting. The final interest meeting will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. in Wilson Commons 122. Voting for class council positions will take place from April 21-23.

Whatever happened to the dormitories of yesteryear?

Two images come to mind: One is of cinder block-walled rooms hidden behind brutalist edifices, and the other is of air-conditioned suites bathed in natural light.

Please stop messing with my pants

It started off with small things. One morning, the cuffs of my pants were slightly shorter, almost imperceptibly so.
