My name is Melanie Smith. My e-mail is listed above. My number is 475-0109. I recently moved here from the West. This is my first experience in the East. I have appreciated the opportunity to attend the University of Rochester and many people have been very helpful. My big concern is that this is a prestigious university, and the primary objective of any institution of higher learning such as this one should be the search for truth. The search for truth is a worthy cause, for truth gives people a base to stand on. Truth frees people. Truth is indisputable and does not change. From a book of scripture I know to be inspired by God, the Doctrine and Covenants, there is a scripture that reads, “the glory of God is intelligence, or truth and light.” God’s influence and presence is necessary to attain truth, for He understands the principles of Chemistry, Physics, Physiology, etc. perfectly as the Father of mankind’s spirits and the Creator of the world. Unfortunately, we as humans cut off the influence of God with our actions. Frequently I hear the name of God and Jesus Christ profaned and used as explitives. This school will turn their head as a group that is funded by the U of R shows a porn movie. This is disrespectful to God and to humankind. Also, this school funds groups who advocate homosexuality, an act that is devastating to the souls of humankind, and an act that will only lead to misery. God, the inspirer of all that is good, will not support an institution who defies His laws, for without obedience to His laws one can not know Him or attain truth. We limit our own progression when we ignore Him. It is necessary that for any institution to reach its potential and to change lives for good, to support God and His laws. I am not saying that people should be shunned for what they do, but that acts should not be publicly or monetarily supported. True leadership is making a stand for what is right, and I encourage all with a belief in a living God to defend what is good and right, for this act advances knowledge, peace, equality, and goodness in the world.

On the Students’ Association resolution
This SA resolution is simply another way to follow the masses by expressing their dismay for Israel and standing in solidarity with the radical Palestinian people.
fight
We must keep fighting, and we will
While those with power myopically fret about the volume of speech and the health of grass, so many instead turn their attention to lives of hundreds of thousands of human beings.
cultural holidays
Christmas has gone too far
People should look to other cultures to learn the truth of the cliche that holidays are about more than just gifts.
