Bouncing back from a difficult spring break road trip, the women’s tennis team redeemed themselves this past Saturday, defeating the Division II LeMoyne College 6-3, improving UR’s record to 5-7. The team felt comfortable at home after a one-week road trip, where they lost two of six singles matches.

No. 1 and freshman Colleen Cross defeated Katie Fiato 6-3, 6-4, while junior Jaymi Della overcame Nicole Beaubriand 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, despite having a slow start. Freshman Shivani Kumar continued her dominance on court by overpowering Junior Danielle Roux 6-3, 6-1.

LeMoyne’s doubles opponents were competitive. Cross and Kumar teamed up to beat veteran opponents Fiato and Roux 8-4.

Freshman Alexa Perry and junior Tessa Baker defeated Molly Harnden and Nicole Beaubriand 9-7 after a hard fought match.

However, Della and freshman Vera Yakovchenko couldn’t handle their Lemoyne doubles competitors, losing in a close match 8-6.

Though freshman Alexa Perry was missing from action during spring break due to illness, she came back against Lemoyne to defeat Megali 6-4, 6-1.

UR endured a challenging schedule last week, facing more experienced teams. One of those teams was Fairfield University, a Division I team. The Yellowjackets fell to Fairfield 2-9.

Despite their opponent’s skill, the Cross-Kumar doubles team played extremely well together, beating Fairfield’s top doubles team in a decisive match 8-5.

Cross hopes to continue her success in doubles play.

“Getting some doubles wins will get us off to a good start and will help give us confidence for singles,” Cross said.

“Colleen and Shivani’s doubles matches were always impressive and a showing of UR’s best,” Yakovchenko said.

Top 10 best albums of 2024

It’s been an amazing year for music — some of my favorite albums of the decade came out, pop music thrived, as did rap, metal, and overall there were pretty much great albums coming out consistently every week.

Please stop messing with my pants

It started off with small things. One morning, the cuffs of my pants were slightly shorter, almost imperceptibly so.
