This spring break, ARAMARK will switch the weekly expiration date of student block plans from Wednesday at midnight to Saturday at midnight.

According to ARAMARK’s Resident District Manager for UR Chris Coleman, the change was prompted, in part, by student input. Coleman specifically referred to a request by UR sports teams who are away over the weekends.

Coleman said that the Saturday to Saturday week will allow students to make better use of their blocks. “Students will have more time on Thursday and Friday to get their blocks out of the way,” he said.

Students’ Association President Lonny Mallach agreed that the new format makes it easier for students to use their blocks. “If you’re going away for a weekend, you can’t spend all your blocks [on the Wednesday schedule],” he said.

Mallach said that the plan to switch the day for block expiration has been in the works for some time. “It’s something that’s been talked about for a while,” he said.

Though Mallach said he felt that the new plan was being received positively, some students had reservations.

Freshman Kim Colern feels that the Saturday schedule will be a disruption. “I was on a schedule,” she said. “Now I feel like I have to rearrange.”
