After a semester of praises, suggestions and criticisms, here is our list of cheers and jeers to offer a thumbs up to what we think is good and thumbs down to what still needs to be improved.

CHEERS to the Students’ Association Senate for posting an attendance chart to keep track of those senators who do not regularly attend Monday night meetings.

JEERS, though, to the SA Senate for not enforcing the attendance rules for those who are missing too many blue stars.

CHEERS to the Student Pranking and Mischief Society for forming, but JEERS for failing to conduct any funny pranks. Slipping fake housing contracts under students’ doors hardly constitutes a joke, and the papers simply caused frustration for students and administrators.

CHEERS to the Campus Activities Board for seeking student input with regards to Dandelion Day this year. The D-Day survey allowed students to feel more involved in the planning of the celebration, which gave CAB a better idea of students’ preferences when it plans D-Day events.

JEERS to Webmail for unreliable service. As college students, we deserve a dependable e-mail interface that can reliably access the server, send e-mails on the first try and attach files successfully.

CHEERS to Dining Services for promising to display nutritional information and stocking additional options for vegetarians.

JEERS to them for not actually following through with either. Not only is the nutrition information rarely posted, but the wider variety of food added this year to include vegetarians and vegans is usually out of stock.

CHEERS to Dining Services for reintroducing a menu and wait service at The Meliora, providing a true sit-down dining experience on campus. Additional CHEERS for allowing more declining balance options at the Corner Store.

JEERS to the Athletic Department for scheduling away games on D-Day. As the day is intended to be a campus-wide holiday, the Athletic Department is separating student athletes from the rest of the UR community.
