An intoxicated student in Anderson Tower was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital after security officers responded before 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 11.
While the security officers were on the scene, they noticed illegal weapons – a cane sword, double-edged throwing knives and a machete – in plain view in the student’s room, according to UR Security Investigator Dan Lafferty.
The items were confiscated as a result of the illegality of the weapons, according to New York state law.
Although criminal charges could be filed, UR Security merely surrendered the weapons to the Rochester Police Department for destruction, according to security.
The case has been referred to the Dean of Students Office for further review.
Rochester resident arrested in library
Rochester resident James Lemon, 51, was arrested on trespassing charges after he was found in Rush Rhees Library before 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 without legitimate purpose for being there, according to Lafferty.
Lemon has been previously arrested at UR for theft-related activity in the library.
Investigators are currently working to establish whether he was involved in any thefts that occurred in recent days on campus, according to UR Security.
RPD officers removed Lemon from the campus.
Stereos stolen from two vehicles
Two vehicles were broken into and car stereos were taken from them near Valentine.
The first incident occurred between Oct. 14 and 17, when a suspect pried the driver’s side door handle in order to gain entry. In the second incident, which occurred between Oct. 18 at 10:30 p.m. and Oct. 19 at 5:43 p.m., one of the car’s windows was smashed, according to security.
The damage cost approximately $250 and $750, respectively.
The two victims may file reports with the RPD, according to Lafferty.
Backpack stolen from Rush Rhees
An unidentified suspect stole a student’s backpack while she was napping in the Great Hall in Rush Rhees Library between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 15, according to UR Security.
Among other items, the backpack contained the student’s driver’s license and credit card.
On the same day, a second student reported seeing someone who seemed out of place in the library and provided a physical description of the individual, according to security.
Investigators are currently reviewing information to determine if there is any correlation between the suspect and the second student’s description.
The victim may file a report via 311.
Clothes theft prevented in shower
A student residing in Gilbert Hall reported that an unidentified suspect entered the bathroom shower area while she was showering and attempted to grab her clothing just before 8 a.m. on Oct. 20, according to Lafferty.
Once the student noticed, the suspect immediately left the area.
This is the second such occurrence since Oct. 7, according to security.
Anyone with any information or who may have seen someone out of place in the area is encouraged to contact UR Security.
UAA banner stolen from Goergen
The UAA banner hanging from the second floor of the Goergen Center was stolen between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 19.
The banner has the names of all the schools that make up the UAA and is estimated to be worth over $300. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact security.
