The women?s lacrosse team played with a lot of heart and determination on the road this past weekend and came away with a convincing win against Clarkson University Friday, but lost in a close game to St. Lawrence University Saturday.

Demolishing of Clarkson

The Yellowjackets easily defeated Clarkson 16-3 to add another win to its Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association play.

?The Clarkson game was great. We competed at a good level of play and everyone participated in that win,? coach Andrea Golden said.

The women jumped to a fast start, ending the half leading with a score of 7-1.

With a commanding lead, Golden switched up the goalkeep-ing and put freshman goalie Stephanie Bristol in net.

The offense was strong, with three goals and two assists by junior Jessica Lerman and two goals and two assists by junior attacker Erika Bergstrom. Freshman Melanie Branski added four assists. Junior captain Jenny Rogers and sophomore Delphine Robotham added a goal and two assists respectively. Junior Lauren Mele, freshmen Katie Riegel and freshman Sharon LaVaute also added two goals a piece.

A close one at St. Lawrence

The following day the team faced another UCAA opponent, St. Lawrence.

With only 30 seconds left in regulation, St. Lawrence?s top scorer netted a goal to defeat the Yellowjackets 10-9.

?It was a tough loss to St. Lawrence,? Lerman said.

The team started off to a quick start, but an early second half was disallowed by the referees.

Despite the call, the team did not lose heart, and continued to pour on the offense. At the half, the score was tied 5-5.

During the second half, both teams exchanged goals with the score tied throughout the match. In the final minute of the game, the score was 9-9.

The loss ended the Yellowjackets five-game winning streak and their undefeated record in the UCAA. UR?s overall record is now 6-2, 3-1 in the UCAA.

The possibility of qualifying for the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament is still not out of the picture, but the team will have to come up with two big wins this weekend.

Scorers for the game included three goals each for Rogers and Lerman, and one goal for Riegel.

In the beginning of the week, Lerman was named the UCAA player of the week for helping extend the team to a 3-0 winning streak last week.

Riegel was also named the UCAA rookie of the week.

Upcoming competition

At 4 p.m., the team takes on Hamilton College at Fauver Stadium Friday April 20.

Currently Hamilton is ranked No. 5 nationally among Div. III schools and is the No. 1 team in the UCAA.

Saturday April 21, the team travels to William Smith College to face the No. 8 ranked team in the nation.

If the team wins both games this weekend, the Yellowjackets could look to qualify for the NCAA tournament.

4 Nations Face Off tournament cements another Canadian victory on the international stage

In the end, it only took 8:18 of overtime for the game to end, won by Canada on a wrister by McDavid. Those watching McDavid score his “Golden Goal,” couldn’t help but be reminded of when Crosby scored his own golden goal in overtime of a US-Canada matchup in 2010, cementing his status as an NHL legend.

A timely love letter to February

Although you happen to be the shortest month of the year, it feels like forever since you first arrived. Before we return to the monotony of 30 or 31-day months again, I just wanted to write this just to thank you for your visit and reminisce about some wonderful memories.
