The UR women’s volleyball team finished off the season by going 1-2, losing to Nazareth College, then going on the road to defeat SUNY Geneseo and finally dropping the final match of the season to SUNY Potsdam.

Overall this year, the volleyball team ends with a 16-18 record, with a conference record of 0-7.

In the match against Nazareth, Rochester lost 25-30, 27-30, 25-30. Sophomore Dana Hilfinger led the team offensively with nine kills, followed by sophomore Emily Hunter with eight kills and junior Jessica Rasmussen with six kills.

Defensively, there were two leaders; Rasmussen and freshman Rachel Bender each had nine digs. Freshman Kate Lewis pitched in with seven digs.

The team finally got back to its winning ways by defeating Geneseo 30-17, 31-29, 30-16. Rasmussen led the team in offensive digs with 14, while Hunter chipped in with eight kills.

Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, freshman Tayler Schweigel led the team with 14 digs, while Rasmussen had 10 digs. Bender, Lewis and Hilfinger had nine digs each.

However, the season did not conclude as expected, with the UR volleyball team falling to SUNY Potsdam to finish a roller coaster season, 30-20, 28-30, 25-30, 26-30.

Hunter led the team with 14 offensive kills, followed closely by freshman Sarah Kauper with 10 kills. Hilfinger and Rasmussen each had nine kills in the losing effort.

It was a defensive battle as several players had over 10 digs in the game. Lewis had 22 digs, Hilfinger had 19 digs and Rasmussen had 18 digs for the match.

For the season, Lewis led the team in kills with 311, followed by Rasmussen with 293 and Hilfinger with 289 kills. For the defensive side, Rasmussen led the team by a wide margin with 516 digs for the season. Closely following her were Bender with 382 digs and freshman Maura Hamilton with 305 digs.

The team finishes off its fall season with the UAA Championships at home. The ‘Jackets will be in a group with Washington University in St. Louis, Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western University. The other bracket will consist of Emory University, Brandeis University, New York University and University of Chicago.
