Jacques ApplebyClass of 2004MEN’S SOCCER

Jacques Appleby was nominated by coach Chris Apple to be this week?s Notable Yellowjacket after UR extended its undefeated record to 6-0-1.

?Jacques has been critical to the teams early success this year,? Apple said. ?Jacques scored the golden goal game winner in overtime on Tuesday versus Ithaca and scored 2 goals Saturday, including the game winning goal.?

Jacques is currently a biology major with interest in pediatric medicine.

Graduating from small town Midland, MI, this sophomore likes to ?relax and do absolutely nothing? during his spare time. But this ?easy-to-please? guy does have high expectations.

?I think that the team has performed well overall and I would like to see us make it to the NCAA tournament this year,? he said. Currently ranking No. 15 nationally, the Yellowjackets just may have a shot at that goal.

Joanna TokeClass of 2003WOMEN’S TENNIS

Joanna was nominated by coach Anna Khvalina to be this week?s Notable Yellowjacket after she grabbed the singles? title from 64 other players at last weekend?s ITA regional tournament. She also paired with senior Rachel Sandler in the doubles match for the doubles victory.

Joanna is a sophomore microbiology and German double-major. She has been playing tennis here in Rochester since she was eight. Despite being such an all-around girl, Joanna still admires two people important in her life ? her brother and sister.

?They are both incredibly smart and motivated people and are both have influenced my life tremendously,? she said. ?My brother got me involved with tennis and my sister taught me how to ride horses, which is my second favorite sport as well as my hobby.?

Mike QuijanoClass of 2003MEN’S GOLF

Mike tied for third individually in the Williams College Invitational Saturday and Sunday, leading the Yellowjackets to a third place finish in the team competition. He combined a total of 145 for the two days and was named to the all-tournament team.

?I think I surprised myself playing this well,? Mike said. ?I have been working very hard so I expected improvement, but I am definitely extremely pleased with my performance overall this weekend.?

Mike has been playing golf for 14 years. The graduate of Westhill High School in Syracuse likes ?watching TV and just hanging out? during his spare time from his optics major.

There isn?t a single person that Mike looks up to, but he gives due credit to his parents. ?I have to say I thank my mom and dad ? for putting up with me and getting me to where I am,? he said.

Interpreted by some as an anti-Israel and anti-Zionist series, Rubel emphasized that while the need to support a particular side passionately is understandable, it is crucial to be aware of what you are standing behind by exposing yourself to historical and present knowledge.
