Over the past week, students at UR have launched a fundraising effort to raise $20,000 to aid in the recovery efforts as a result of the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania Sept. 11.
Tables have been set up in Wilson Commons to allow the community to contribute to the drive.
?We?d like to go to Manhattan and help shovel, but we know that?s not practical for most of us,? senior and Students? Association President John LaBoda said.
?So we thought, ?Lets do what we can here and raise money. Everybody needs money in a time like this.??
?A lot of students felt like they had to do something other than watch CNN,? junior and SA Chief of Staff Lonny Mallach said.
To entice people to give to the cause, the SA has organized a benefit concert for Friday and Saturday night in Strong Auditorium from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
The concerts will include the Yellowjackets, the Midnight Ramblers, Vocal Point, In Between the Lines, and Off Broadway on Campus.
Friday?s concert will also include a special a capella guest, In Acchord, and Saturday?s concert will include a performance by the Strong Jugglers.
?It should be a great, entertaining way for students to support the cause,? Mallach said.
Tickets will be $5 for UR ID holders and $10 for the general public. They will be available on the first floor of Wilson Commons, at the Common Market or at the door.
