Experience Eastman program funds Valentines Day concert

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra concert and pre-concert event taking place this Valentine’s Day weekend serves as the first-ever Experience Eastman program.
Experience Eastman was designed by the Students’ Association in an effort to integrate the River Campus with the Eastman Campus.
More specifically, this program aims to inform River Campus students about events occurring at the Eastman School of Music.
This program was first launched in the summer of 2009, but the funds were not used until this January.
The 2011 and 2010 Class Councils have worked together to organize and implement this event, which utilizes the Experience Eastman funding to provide the transportation to and from Eastman for the concert.
The concert will feature the Four Last Songs and Schumeann’s Symphony No. 3, Rhenish.
In addition, there will be a pre-concert reception with refreshments where River Campus and Eastman students will have the opportunity to meet one another.

Alzheimer’s research receives large donation

A large financial gift was given to the UR Medical Center for clinical research in Alzheier’s disease. The gift was for $1.5 million from William B. and Sheila Konar.

This donation is believed to be the largest gift for supporting clinical research for Alzheimer’s disease that the UR has ever received to date.

The money from the Konars will go to support a program that is already nationally viewed as one of the top Alzheimer’s clinical research programs.

The donation from the Konars has created a new endowed professorship to assist clinical research in new innovative ways to treat and or prevent diseases of the brain that have an affect on memory, thinking, behavior and mood.

Anton P. Porsteinsson, M.D., who is the first William B. and Sheila Konar Professor, was put in charge of UR’s Alzheimer’s Disease Care, Research and Education Program (AD-CARE) and its Memory Disorders Clinic.
