1. A student alerted Security that suspects were attempting to steal a bicycle from the exterior rack of Meliora Hall on Monday, Sept. 26, at 8:05 p.m.
On the sidewalk of Intercampus Drive, responding officers found four youths, between the ages of 11 and 14, who matched the descriptions provided.
One of the youths was observed dropping a folding knife and a box cutter on the ground, according to UR Security Investigator Daniel Lafferty, who said Security then found that the individual also had a set of wire cutters and pliers in his possession. In total, the individuals were found to be carrying two knives, two wrenches, one multi-purpose tool, one box-cutter style razor and one pair of wire cutters.
One of the suspects told officers that another one of the suspects had taken the bike he was riding from the bike rack, but all of the youths contended that they were simply taking a shortcut through campus on their way to visit someone in Strong Memorial Hospital. The youths were issued ban forms and departed the property without further incident.
Raunchy rooftop ruckus a no-go
2. Two individuals were observed on the roof of Rush Rhees Library on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 3:11 a.m.
According to Lafferty, the individuals were identified as students after they came down the fire escape. They were both warned and released without further incident.
Student transported to Strong
3. An undergraduate student was transported by ambulance from Harkness Hall to Strong Memorial Hospital Emergency Department on Friday, Sept. 23, at 6:07 p.m.
The student went to the Emergency Department for evaluation and care, but did not incur any injuries from the incident, according to Lafferty.
Separated shoulder at violent rugby event
4. A UR visitor was transported by ambulance from the Southside softball field to Strong Emergency Department on Saturday at 4:20 p.m.
According to Lafferty, the individual sustained a possible separated shoulder while playing rugby.
Thief descends on valuables at Starbucks
5. A student reported that her cell phone and laptop were stolen from the Starbucks in Wilson Commons on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 5:45 p.m.
The victim had momentarily left her phone and laptop unattended on a table while she went to get food and discovered the theft upon her return, according to Lafferty.
Responding Security officers could not find the thief in the area. Lafferty said the student planned to file a police report via the 311 call center.
Laptops a hot commodity for UR thieves
6. An undergraduate reported that his book bag with textbooks, his MacBook Pro laptop and a cell phone charger were stolen from his vehicle on Monday between 11:30 and 11:37 p.m.
The victim told Security that he parked his car on Fraternity Road adjacent to Lovejoy Hall and was only gone for seven minutes.
There were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle, and the victim was unsure whether he had locked the car or not, according to Lafferty, who said a police report would be filed at a later time via 311.
