College bowl prepares for nationals

After placing 20th in a pool of 36 teams at the National Academic Quiz Tournament two weeks ago, the UR Thelion Society is preparing for their biggest tournament of the year.

UR’s college bowl team will travel to Manhattan, Kansas to compete in the College Bowl International Tournament which will be held on April 26-28.

Sophomore and president of the Thelion Society Michael Adelman likes the team’s progress. “When we began the year, we basically started out as nobodies in the quiz bowl community, but in about a year’s time, we have been able to develop from being nothing to being a nationally recognized program,” he said.

“Obviously, we feel like we’ve had a successful year,” he said.

In a recent independent poll, UR was ranked 21st among the top 25 teams who participate in quiz bowl. “We were all very excited about [the ranking] because Rochester had never appeared in the top 25, so we feel like we’re heading in the right direction,” Adelman said.

Adelman said he feels that UR has a chance to be competitive at the CIB tournament. “I definitely think it’s within our abilities to finish in the top four,” he said.

Top 10 best albums of 2024

It’s been an amazing year for music — some of my favorite albums of the decade came out, pop music thrived, as did rap, metal, and overall there were pretty much great albums coming out consistently every week.
