1. On the evening of Saturday, Sept. 11, flash fighting erupted at a dance being held at Douglass Dining Center. According to UR Security Investigator Daniel Lafferty, there were between 15 and 50 individuals involved in the fight at any given time.
At approximately 1:29 a.m., security officers at the event overheard individuals yelling about fights breaking out in the building. The officers responded and shut down the event, but the fighting then moved outside and intensified. At that point, Rochester police were called and responded to the scene. With the help of a rain shower, security and police officers were able to disband the fighting within about a half hour.
During the brawl, three security officers were injured while trying to help individuals attending the event. One sustained shoulder and ligament injuries when he was struck by a metal crutch. Another suffered a dislocated shoulder and ligament injuries while trying to tackle an agitated person to the ground. The third officer sustained hand injuries while trying to calm multiple individuals.

Thief breaks in, steals electronics in Towers
2. A total of five laptop computers, five MP3 players and an external hard drive were stolen from several Towers residents on Saturday, Sept. 11, and Sunday, Sept. 12.
According to Director of University Security Walter Mauldin, all of the thefts resulted from students failing to close and lock suite or individual bedroom doors while stepping out.
The thefts occurred on the third, sixth and ninth floors of Wilder Tower. Residents on the sixth floor reported seeing an individual that they did not recognize as a resident of the area. All the incidents occurred in the late evening or early morning hours.
In response to the break-ins, Student Aide patrols have been increased in the Towers area. Additionally, students are reminded to keep suite and bedroom doors locked when their rooms are being left unattended.
Seven cars broken into across campus
3. A long list of items — including GPS units, iPods, garage door openers, gift cards and $2 cash — were reported stolen from vehicles across campus between Saturday, Sept. 11, and Monday, Sept. 13.
According to Lafferty, four of the thefts occurred in Hill Court Lot, two in Intercampus Lot and one in Library Lot. Some of the victims have filed police reports, and others intend to do so at a later time. There is no evidence connecting these incidents to the Towers break-ins, which occurred during a similar time frame.
Cat caller called out
4. Students at the Eastman School of Music alerted Security about an individual making inappropriate comments to female students on Friday, Sept. 10.
According to Lafferty, Security officers checked Gibbs Street and the surrounding areas without any results.
