Student activity van catches fire

A Students’ Association van caught fire as students were returning to campus from Senior Night on Jan. 15 at 11:02 p.m, according to security. The driver stopped the vehicle on Library Road outside Goergen Athletic Center and observed smoke and flames coming from under the hood, according to security.

The Rochester Fire Department and UR Security were called to put out the fire, according to Mauldin.

The cause was leaves and other debris on the battery of the vehicle as well as trace levels of petroleum in the engine, according to UR Security.No one was injured in the incident, according to Mauldin.

Three swords were taken into protective custody by UR Security on Wed. night.

The three blades were part of a matched set that a student was using to decorate his room.

Students are not allowed to keep these weapons, even for decorative purposes.

They were given to the Office of the Dean of Students for safe return to the students home, according to Director of Security Walter Mauldin.

Male visitor viewing pornography

An unidentified man was reportedly viewing pornographic material at a computer station in Edward G. Miner Medical Library.

The male visitor, who was neither a staff member nor a student, was spotted on Jan. 17 at 5:40 p.m.

This is the second incident in six weeks where a non-UR student or staff member was reported viewing pornography on public computers, according to UR Security.

Intoxicated student in Wilson Commons

UR Security responded to a staff report of an extremely intoxicated male in Wilson Commons at 11:21 p.m. on Jan 15.

The Medical Emergency Response Team was called when the student was found to be unresponsive, according to Mauldin.

The student was transported to Strong Medical Center, according to UR Security.

Car crash kills elderly man at Strong

An elderly gentleman in his 70s en route to Strong Memorial Hospital suffered a physical problem, on Jan. 14 at 9:24 a.m.

The man accelerated into the east wall of the ground floor of the parking garage, accoring to Mauldin.

UR Security, community physical, blue 100 team, Rochester Fire and Police Departments all responded, according to security. Once removed from the car by RFD, Blue 100 performed CPR and the man was then transported to the emergency room where he was unable to be revived, according to Mauldin.

UR student arrested

UR undergraduate student Mark Koenig was arrested by RPD after breaking into a private residence in Summit drive in Brighton.

The student attended Senior Night with friends, became intoxicated, walked through Mt. Hope Cemetery and into a house, according to security.

Family members awoke in alarm and called the police.

He is to appear in Brighton town court on charges of attempted burglary and resisting arrest.
