UR Security officers witnessed a 34 year-old man thought to be masturbating in Hill Court Lot around noon on Sunday through the security cameras, according to UR Security Investigator Dan Lafferty.
Rochester Police Department officers were called to the scene and identified the man as a non-affiliated Rochester resident. The suspect was told to stay off university property and was later released by police, according to UR Security.
Trash chute catches fire in GLC
A staff member was emptying trash in DeKiewet Tower when he smelled smoke before 11 a.m. on Sept. 5. Noticing a small fire in the basement portion of the trash chute, he activated a fire alarm and extinguished the fire, according to UR Security.
The Rochester Fire Department arrived and made sure that the fire was extinguished. There was no reported damage and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Students harassed in Park Lot
A 39-year-old Rochester man approached two students who were parking in Park Lot and asked if they wanted to buy marijuana on Sept. 2.
The suspect was angered by their refusal and reportedly beat on the car window before walking away.
After being summoned by the students using a blue light phone, security officers located the suspect at South Plymouth and Brooks Avenue.
While waiting for RPD officers to arrive, the suspect entered a resident’s home without permission. The suspect was taken into custody and is currently facing harassment and trespassing charges, according to Lafferty.
Two students treated for intoxication
In an incident on Sept. 6, two 17-year-olds were taken to area hospitals for intoxication. An undergraduate was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, while a visitor was taken to Highland Hospital, according to UR Security.
The two were found semi-conscious in a bathroom by a Residential Adviser, who alerted security officers.
Both of the minors said that they had received and consumed the alcohol on the Fraternity Quad, according to UR Security.
Money stolen from suite in Wilder
In separate incidents, residents of Wilder Tower stated that an unidentified suspect had entered their rooms while they were sleeping and stole food, clothing and money from their suites, according to Lafferty.
The case is under investigation.
